The Certified Passivhaus Designer course offered by BRE Global and Blue Planet Academy, will provide participants with all the skills necessary to design and deliver buildings to the Passivhaus standard. The Passivhaus design principles can be applied not only to the residential sector, but also to commercial, industrial and public buildings.

Details :

In order to promote adoption of the Passivhaus standard and ensure that it is implemented with correct quality, the EU funded the CEPH project to deliver robust training and certification for Passivhaus Designers across EU member states. The course and exam in English will be delivered in Glasgow by the University of Strathclyde supported by Passihaus experts. The course provides advanced training for architects and designers already experienced in energy optimised construction and renovation. On passing the exam individuals are registered by the Passivhaus Institut and can use associated materials to market their services.

The course includes 80 detailed topics covering: The heatinsulating building shell, Construction heat bridges, Passive House windows, Airtightness and Blower Door Test (workshop), Thermography (workshop), Ventilation, Summer comfort, Utilisation of residual heat, Quality Assurance of heating and ventilation, Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) with a range of buildings and your own project, Passive House factor 10 renovations, Non-residential Passive Haus, Profitability and Loan program calculations, Tendering and awarding contracts, Construction Supervision and Quality Assurance, Customer support.

Background :

With soaring energy costs, fuel poverty rising each year, a growing population and demand for new homes there is a need for correct methods of construction to reduce our carbon footprint and provide a brighter sustainable future. By its definition, a building constructed to the Passivhaus standard eradicates the risk of fuel poverty and fuel security and lowers operating costs considerably. The core focus of Passivhaus design is to dramatically reduce the requirement for space heating and cooling without compromising comfort or needing to rely on renewable energy technologies.

Successful completion of the course will allow qualified designers to register with BRE’s Passivhaus Certification Scheme (PCS) which provides quick assessment and issue of the Passivhaus Institut ‘Quality Assurance’ certificates for the completed projects at preferential prices. The course also qualifies as seven days RIBA and Construction Certification CPD.

Programme

The course consists of a mixture of traditional lectures and practical workshops. The Passivhaus Planning Package is used throughout the training and each delegate will have access to a PC workstation.

The classroom training days will be delivered in two sessions:
